Shannon is a Glen Ridge, NJ mother to two older boys and 3 dogs. She has held various jobs throughout the years, but when asked recently by one of her mentors, “What work brings you the most joy?” her first and immediate response was “Being of service. Helping families. Being with children.”
One of her neighbors was in a pinch a few months ago when their babysitter became suddenly unavailable. They asked Shannon if she could help look after their two young boys for a few hours after school, as both parents worked from home. She readily agreed and what began as a temporary situation turned into a permanent one that Shannon looked forward to every day.
It started out with the basic childcare, occasional school pick-ups, and babysitting. Then it became taking the kids to OT appointments, sports practice, to the park, library, wherever they needed to go. She quickly began to notice all the little things she could help the whole family with, and began to straighten up the house, clean surfaces, vacuum, mop, clean the dishes, cleaning anything that needed it, folding the laundry then putting it away, making the kid’s beds, just anything that needed to be done.
